CTx is deeply saddened by the death of the “Father of modern Haematology”, Professor Donald Metcalf on Monday 15 December.  A brief history of his sixty illustrious years at the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute can be found here.

Professor Doug Hilton (Director of WEHI) collaborated with Professors Nicos Nicola and Warren Alexander to write a moving tribute to this great medical researcher, whose research into colony stimulating factors led to the development of drugs that have saved the lives of millions of cancer sufferers worldwide.

Gifts in memory of Professor Metcalf can be made to the Metcalf Scholarship Fund.
