Professor Vicky Avery
Professor Vicky Avery is Head, Discovery Biology, Griffith University, which incorporates Australia’s premier High Throughput Screening (HTS) and High Content Imaging (HCI) facilities. During the past 21 years, she has made significant contributions within Drug Discovery resulting in the identification of new lead compounds and innovative techniques, involving the management of complex international research collaborations. Professor Avery gained significant industry experience working for Active Biotech AB, Sweden and AstraZeneca.
In 2007, Professor Avery established an independent lab which undertakes both basic and applied research in drug discovery, primarily in the areas of cancer and neglected diseases. Since that time, she has led the Griffith University Drug Discovery Programme for the CRC for Cancer Therapeutics. Prof Avery and her team are recognised for their expertise in HTS and HCI; developing innovative technological approaches for HTS, Hit-to-Lead and lead optimization, with a focus on imaging.
Professor Avery was awarded the McCullough Robertson LSQ Industry Award in 2018; a finalist for the 2019 Life Sciences Outstanding Achievement WiT Award and appointed as a member of the Australian Research Council College of Experts in 2019.
